Dr.Bill
Durston in Emergency Room
Remember their vote as you vote
Re "SCHIP by the numbers - and key
ones to call," Oct. 15: Shame on Reps. Wally Herger, R-Marysville,
Dan Lungren, R-Gold River, and John Doolittle, R-Roseville.
They talk "values" and
"family," but when on Thursday a key vote came on the State
Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide health care for
10 million children in low-income and lower-middle-income working
families, all three voted no. Remember this vote when you cast your
ballot!

Rep.
Dan Lungren vs. kids' health
Re
"Help override Bush veto," editorial, Oct. 6: Do you really
think there is any point in asking Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Gold River, to
end his insidious fight against the State Children's Health Insurance
Program?
This is
a man who seems affronted by the very existence of Medicare and Social
Security.
It is
no surprise that Lungren is one of a few holdouts in the House of
Representatives who are blocking an override of Bush's veto of SCHIP
(the popular state-run health insurance program for poor and near-poor
children).
This is
the same man who, in the wake of Katrina, showed no compassion for
disaster victims abandoned by the Bush administration or indignation at
FEMA's inept response, but waxed eloquent in raging against looters.
Presumably,
he did not mind the use of Blackwater mercenaries in New Orleans, at a
cost of $950 per man per day -- not to rescue victims on rooftops but
to shoot suspected wrongdoers.

An alternative to
Lungren
There
is new hope within the Third Congressional District.
Those
of us who pay attention to what is going on in Washington realize that
President Bush has had consistent, short-sighted, in-block and
unsighted support from the Republican congressional representatives in
Congress. It has been a spectacle difficult to watch as our own
Congressman, Dan Lungren, has given his support to each of the
disastrous Bush policies imposed upon the American people.
For
each person who voted for Lungren in past elections, there is now a
solution that can realign your conscience.
We in
the Third District have a bona fide Marine combat hero challenging
Lungren in the 2008 campaign, one whose public support grows daily.
Many
in the Sacramento area and elsewhere already know Dr. Bill Durston and
are, therefore, acquainted with his dedicated life to the service of
others. He will add a high degree of desperately needed respect to
Congress.
"DurstonForCongress.Org,"
provides a wonderful sketch of a person ready and willing to represent
the Third District in the manner residents of this district deserve.
